I would like to share one of my logo design project with you. It has been created for a new freshly started business. Your Property Video is providing effective solutions to advertise real estate. Properties for sale, rent, holiday homes. Soon you can check it out here.
As I am also part of the business, we worked closely with my friend and business partner to come up with a logo idea.
After crossed over a few ideas we became sure that want to use a house as a symbol of the real estate and somehow include videography or photography in it as this is the core of our service.
Playing with the aperture ring we found it!

Colored it.

House, aperture ring. We looked at it from all directions and started to play with colors and fonts to see how it works with the name around it.

The first idea looked right (with the Advent font) but we were not too sure about the printed version. Our code master Zsopeg came up with the Benton Sans font and it seems to work better for printing.

After we played around with the colors and really liked the orange - black combo as well. We are going to use the two color combinations to distinguish the different service levels.

I posted the logo on LogoPond to get some feedback and constructive critics and I did not have to wait for long. The first comment was mentioning that it is similar to the Google - Picasa logo.

The second was telling it look like the Aperture Science logo. I guess if you are using an aperture ring you just can’t avoid that your logo looks similar like other logos born from the aperture ring. I hunted down the three logos and put it here to let you decide.

I don’t think so that there is too much similarity apart from the fact that they are all modified aperture rings. What do you think?

Hi Szabi,
Before reading about your process, I immediately thought of Google Picassa. Your concept is strong, and ties in well, but unfortunately the result isn’t distinctive, due to the other logos you mention.
Off-topic, I like your choice of WordPress theme. I’ve also thought of using Derek’s ‘unstandard’ for my own blog content.

Hi David,
Thanks for the advice. After considering and digesting all the feedbacks (and staring at the logos for a while) we decided to come up with a new idea so the post will be continued probably very soon.
It’s a good lesson to always keep my eyes wide open.
I love the Unstandard theme. I was looking for a more visual magazine like wordpress theme and found this as the best among the free ones.
You have to consider a bit of extra time for the two (lead and secondary) images as there is no script to adjust and add them to the post. It has to be done with the custom fields but it’s part of the fun.
The theme is not widget ready which I miss a bit altough it is very easy to customize it and I think the design is great.
