Venezuelan Graphic Design

I was promising some precious design treasures when I get back from holiday and I have to admit it seems to be quite difficult to find any decent publication about design in Venezuela. It’s not just that we walk in to any WHSmith and flip through a dozen of mags and choose the one we like the most.

I managed to find one magazine (bought it) a copy of the spanish Arte y Diseño. It was from 2007 and it’s from Spain. I was happy to get a copy of it but that’s not what I was looking for.

I was looking for Venezuelan Graphic Design and I haven’t found it. Forget about design books and magazines. The only stuff I found was the same books (they are excellent, but not from Venezuela) what you can find on Amazon only for double of the Amazon price.

Although if you know some university students or somebody who is a bit interested in the underground culture, you can easily find a copy of Plátanoverde.

Plátanoverde is a magazine. It’s difficult to define it’s style or anything about it. What is sure, it contains some great piece of design works and it’s really cool. Let’s see what the authors themselves tell about it.

There are very good design schools in Venezuela and it seems a lot going on in Caracas, in three weeks (with loads of traveling) I could not get to know too much about it. However I don’t give up and still trying to find out more about this beautiful country’s design scene.

However I could not find too much in Caracas, I was pretty sure that a quick online search will give me several results. That’s how i found beta studio ; :03: ; some exciting works from Latin America in the Camionetica blog. The Caracas based MASA. The Venezuelan circle on the Behance Network. Behance also offering free platform for creative professionals to showcase their work. Came across the works of Carlos Fabián Camargo Guerrero, a Venezuelan born designer, typographers font types and Drearetro’s impressive works on DeviantART.

That’s all for now but I will keep an eye on the Venezuelan Design scene. The culture, the life, history, the people makes Venezuela a very interesting place and full of potential. It’s really a special place with breathtaking natural beauty. I think the internet and our daily life is also full of design inspiration however it is always exciting to see works from other culture or from completely different places. In this way we can learn a lot and gain a lot of inspiration therefore I will keep my eyes open and would like to ask you if you see any nice website or works or you are a venezuelan designer, please feel free to put a link here to show your work.
